On the way to becoming a
leader in Syria
Hasan Idrees, a native of Syria, has lived in Germany for seven years. In 2015, a commission of experts from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) selected 221 students from 5,000 applicants for the "Leaders for Syria" program. Hasan Idrees: "I am very grateful for this opportunity; studying in Syria was virtually impossible due to the war." After taking German courses in Marburg, Hasan Idrees took up studies in water technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen and mastered the master's program with flying colors.
The move to the Ruhr -
the best decision for Hasan Idrees:
The services offered by the University of Duisburg-Essen for students from abroad have been very helpful to Hasan Idrees. He is particularly enthusiastic about the support he has received from the working group led by Prof. Dr. Stefan Panglisch.
Living and working in the Ruhr Valley?
Hasan Idrees: "I can't imagine it any better. I live in a beautiful area of Mülheim, and in just a few minutes I can walk to a nature reserve right on the Ruhr. Just as quickly, I'm in the city center." It is important to Hasan Idrees to pass on some of his good experience to others. He founded the university group "AquaSmarTech" at his department. It serves as a link between faculty, the professional world and students and offers support when starting a degree program, looking for internships or making the transition to professional life. The International Office awarded him the DAAD Prize 2021 for his achievements and social commitment.
