Herne New building for the University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration NRW

A new university campus for the University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration (HSPV) North Rhine-Westphalia is being built in the FunkenbergQuartier district of Herne. Construction began in September 2023, marking the start of a project that will enrich the urban landscape of Herne and is of great importance for the training of future leaders in the public sector.

The complex comprises a teaching and administration building, a multi-purpose building with a canteen and library, and a multi-storey car park with around 1,200 parking spaces. With a total rental area of 31,737 square metres, it will provide modern learning and working environments. After its planned completion in early 2027, the university will offer space for around 4,200 students, teachers and employees and will develop into an educational location with supra-regional appeal.

Based on a 20-year lease agreement with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the design by Auer und Weber Architekten, HOCHTIEF's Social Infrastructure Europe and Builing NRW branches are planning and constructing the HSPV campus. As the landlord and future investor, long-term operation is also guaranteed.

Special attention is being paid to sustainable construction. Both the teaching and administration building and the multi-purpose building will be certified according to the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) with the Gold Standard. The realisation of this project will create a university location that will have a lasting impact on the educational landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia and is an important anchor tenant for the development of the entire FunkenbergQuartier for the city of Herne.
