The decision to locate in Bochum and the Ruhr region was strategic: proximity to the Dutch border, a strong healthcare ecosystem with 92 hospitals and 5.1 million inhabitants, and excellent research facilities. At the Bochum Health Campus, Psylaris has found a smart health hub in Quhr that connects young companies with clinics, insurers and partners from the mental health ecosystem.
Innovation meets network
Psylaris develops software for VR headsets that is used in trauma and anxiety therapy, among other things. The technology enables realistic exposure scenarios that therapists can use in treatment.
For the young Maastricht-based company, the path to the Ruhr region initially led via Berlin. There, at a reception at the Dutch embassy as part of DMEA, the first contact with Business Metropole Ruhr was made. This was followed by emails, phone calls, video calls, and finally Psylaris' participation in the two-day programme ‘Scaling to Germany Health’ – an initiative of the BMR to connect international companies with the healthcare market in the Ruhr region. This includes the Bochum Health Campus and Quhr.
A win-win for the region
‘We want to create a win-win situation,’ explains Christoph Mohnfeld, Managing Director at Quhr. ‘Innovative companies like Psylaris benefit from our network – and our partners benefit from new ideas.’
The cooperation shows how the Ruhr region attracts international health tech pioneers and paves the way for them to enter the German market.
