Ruhr Metropolis builds bridge to North America – City of cities at COLLISION 2022
Delegation trip links ecosystems in Toronto and Pittsburgh with the Ruhr Metropolis
COLLISION in Toronto is the fastest-growing tech convention in North America – connecting the world's most exciting tech ecosystems. With 35,000 registrations, it is sold out in 2022. This year, Germany's opportunity region, the Metropole Ruhr, is presenting itself live in Toronto for the first time.
The Metropole Ruhr presents itself with the campaign "City of Cities" with its own booth at the Tech-Convention COLLISION in Toronto. In addition, renowned German companies will present their tech challenges on the Masterclass stage. Other stops in Canada are start-ups and key players in the tech ecosystem.
The delegation trip with companies, network players and research institutions continues to Pittsburgh with a similar comeback and transformation story as the Ruhr region. The focus is on the topics of IT security, mobility and hydrogen, as well as the exchange with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, a leading organization for citizen participation in the USA.

Building Innovation Bridges
Innovation Bridge North America aims to create a strong network in the innovation ecosystems of the USA and Canada. After the experiences with the Innovation Bridge Israel and the Innovation Bridge China, BMR is now setting up the Innovation Bridge North America to build the bridge from North America to the Ruhr region. Together with the Worldfactory Start-up Center of the Ruhr University Bochum and the Chambers of Commerce Abroad in the USA and Canada, BMR has developed various formats to make start-up ecosystems, pathways and networking opportunities for regional actors as well as the potentials of internationalisation for start-ups visible.
As the regional economic development agency for the Ruhr region, BMR aims to support both the settlement of foreign companies in the Metropole Ruhr and the market development of domestic companies in North America. In addition, the Innovation Bridge is intended to generate innovation impulses and cooperation potential for the region. BMR is therefore building bridges in regions whose competences are complementary to those of the Ruhr region, as well as the tech hotspots Tel Aviv and Shenzhen - and currently North America. Boston is very strong in the field of medical technology and robotics, while in Canada it is above all the exciting players in the field of artificial intelligence and IT security. In short: innovation through cooperation!
