The new weststadt

Essen’s weststadt stands at the site of the former gateway to the legendary Krupp-Stadt, in direct proximity to Essen city centre. The weststadt is known beyond the boundaries of Essen as an example of high-quality, innovative urban development, a successful illustration of the reuse of former industrial space.

New impulses in the southern area of the weststadt are being driven by various projects that are set to further strengthen the urban character of the quarter with a usage mix of office, hotel, leisure, gastronomy and housing. With the D-partments and Flowers Hotel of the Andreas Deilmann Familienstiftung and the i Live Essen, acquired by Commerz Real before it opened, two serviced apartment buildings with a total of some 680 lifestyle micro apartments will offer modern housing in a central location.

The distinctive entrance gateway of the new weststadt takes the form of the Kontorhausviertel development of Greve Development GmbH. The four development modules West, Mitte, Ost and Süd focus on office, hotel, housing, education, child daycare and shops.

The new BE Frohnhauser Straße office development of CFI Conzepte for Immobilien GmbH will deliver an attractive office location with around 7,800 m² of modern rental space, with plans for commencement in January 2020. The weststadt and its direct environs also offer further potential for future residential and office projects.
