In the inter-municipal commercial park of Unna/Kamen the new headquarters and logistics centre of Woolworth GmbH is currently taking shape directly adjacent to the A1 autobahn. The construction site comprises a total surface area of 18.2 hectares and is prominently visible from the highway.
The headquarters is being built on 5 floors with a gross floor area of over 15,000 square metres. In addition to the office space there will also be a canteen with outdoor terrace, a mother and child area and a car park with spaces for 530 cars, 15 motorcycles and 60 bicycles. The building is initially designed for 650 employees and offers a reserve to expand to up to 1,000 employees. At the current site in Unna-Königsborn the company presently has a workforce of around 420 administrative and 150 logistics employees.
The logistics buildings with 5 bays will have a gross floor space of approximately 63,000 square metres and include room for 38,000 palettes on 5 levels. Logistics operations are scheduled to commence in mid-November, combining the two existing sites of Unna and Holzwickede. The more technically complex administration building is due for completion in summer 2020.
The Woolworth company has existed since 1879. Founded in the USA, the insolvency of the German subsidiary was prevented in 2009. In the course of this, Woolworth GmbH was founded in 2010. Since then the company has been on course for growth. In 2016 Woolworth celebrated the opening of its 300th branch and is now present at over 390 locations in Germany. Together with employees and customers, the company plans to expand further – the goal is to have 800 branches across the country.
The construction project is being undertaken in co-operation with DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing GmbH & Co. KG of Mainz as financing partner. In addition, the planning and construction work of the project involves DAL Bautec Baumanagement und Beratung GmbH and Dälken Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH of Münster.
