At the heart of Bochum a commercial quarter is taking shape on Viktoriastraße that will be key to the redesign of the city centre. Known as Viktoria Karree, the quarter cleverly combines multiple uses. On the first two levels new large-scale retail concepts will enrich the shopping experience in the city centre. An underground car park with around 500 parking spaces on two floors offers ample room for customers and businesspeople heading to the new quarter by car. The novel feature: the new parking facilities will be connected to the existing network of underground car parks.
On the upper floors of the Viktoria Karree the investor HBB from Hamburg is creating flexible office space for tenants. Anchor tenant will be Bochum city council. In this way, the Viktoria Karree will also contribute to the preparation of further pioneering urban development projects in Bochum city centre. Gastronomy outlets, further services and a fitness studio round off the new commercial district. In addition, a contemporary hotel also enriches the offers of the Karee.
An intelligent building design was created in collaboration with the renowned architecture office RKW. The urban planning concept of the Viktoria Karree is characterised by its open structure, which settles the building ensemble sympathetically into its surroundings. The openness invites visitors to the city centre to explore the quarter, whilst those who work there benefit from a central and attractive workplace. Construction is scheduledto start in 2020; demolition is already underway.
