Parkstadt in Mülheim an der Ruhr

A green showcase project with a magic garden is being built in the heart of Mülheim an der Ruhr on the 13.6-hectare site of the former headquarters of the Tengelmann Group. The existing building and the associated property are considered architectural contemporary witnesses of German economic history. The Austrian SORAVIA Group, as owner and project developer, now wants to continue this history with a new, contemporary use. The once closed campus is to be opened up and the green areas made accessible to outsiders. In the first phase of the redesign, SORAVIA is having the existing buildings extensively renovated to create an attractive tenant mix, for example with new foyers and staircases. Numerous parts of the building, which can be flexibly designed, have already been let.

For the second phase, SORAVIA launched an urban planning competition in the spring. This is intended to define the guidelines for the gradual further development of Parkstadt Mülheim over the next ten to 15 years. The aim of the competition is to create a lively and forward-looking urban quarter that offers space for living, working, education, culture and life. The designs should meet the latest energy standards, in line with the ambitious goal of the city of Mülheim to be climate-neutral by 2035. Climate-resilient building materials will be used, and the roofs will be equipped with solar panels and planted with greenery. The historic tree population will be preserved as a green lung and place of relaxation, in particular the "magic garden". The element of water plays a central role in the planning.
