Since the operational start of port operations on March 31, 2021, NORDFROST, a family-owned company based in the Frisian town of Schortens, has been offering the market a climate-friendly transport alternative to and from the European western ports for goods of all kinds. However, things will get really exciting when the planned cold storage facility is added directly on the terminal in 2024 on the 90,000 m2 site. This will then represent an almost unique combination of water-side transport and the storage of temperature-controlled goods, which will be marketed jointly with the Port of Rotterdam and DeltaPort under the slogan COOL CORRIDOR. Whereas up to now transport by truck was always required, from this point onwards the refrigerated container, the so-called reefer container, can be transported between the seaports and the cold store without any weight restrictions.

The cold store will offer a capacity of up to 50,000 pallets on an area of approximately 26,000 m2. Equipped with various temperature zones ranging from -22°C to +8°C, temperature-controlled goods can be stored here and processed as required. The building is planned according to the latest standards and is designed for sustainability. To this end, NORDFROST is installing a photovoltaic system to generate electrical energy for cooling the logistics property. With the additional expansion area of 72,000 m2, the property has further development potential for the future. The future design of this property, which will also be equipped with a quay, is currently being planned.
