The former Funke printing plant on a 37,000-square-meter site near downtown Essen has a special significance for many local residents, as the WAZ, the newspaper that was on the breakfast table every morning, was produced here for decades. It was also a place of work and a landmark for many people from the Ruhr area.
Greyfield will preserve this building and develop the stock according to today's requirements and lead it into a new age. In the middle of Essen, a logistics hub will be created as a local supply for the people in the entire catchment area with more than 3 million households. Further areas are to be made accessible to the public. An inner-city hub of this size is a particularly valuable building, as such a use would no longer be feasible in an inner-city location today. In this way, the building will continue to serve people in the future and protect the environment and climate. This is because the bound emissions and used resources are valued and not wasted by demolition and new construction.
