Visit to Uniper SE's Scholven power plant with a tour of the three projects
- Ammonia demo cracker: One of the world's first demonstration plants for ammonia cracking (NH₃ cracker) is being built in Gelsenkirchen-Scholven in partnership with Uniper and thyssenkrupp Uhde. The plant is designed for 28 t NH₃/day (≈ 4 t H₂/day); commissioning at the end of 2026, funded by MWIKE NRW.
- CCGT Scholven 1: CCGT Scholven 1 has been in operation since 2024 and is gradually replacing coal-fired power generation. With 140 MWel and up to 170 MWth of district heating, it supplies electricity, process steam, and district heating with up to 91% fuel efficiency (CHP).
- Scholven 2: Scholven 2 is planned as a highly flexible, H₂-ready gas and steam turbine power plant at the Scholven site (around 910 MWel). It will strengthen supply security and grid stability, start with natural gas, and can be converted to hydrogen in the future.
